Sunday Brunch in Oaxaca City

July 7, 2017

If you are waking up in Oaxaca City on a Sunday, a bit hazy from a couple of mezcales the night before, searching for a coffee and possibly some food to settle your stomach, you might be out of luck. Nearly everything is closed on a Sunday in the city, due to it being a day of rest and many are spending time with family or heading off to church.

But, Sunday in many other parts of the world is for brunching. So, for those who need that mimosa or two, I have scrambled together a list of the best places (That are open) to serve all your brunch needs so you don't need to do anymore work than you need to, because you know, it's Sunday.

Casa Estambul

You were probably partying here the night before, hence that hangover you have. They just recently opened up for Sunday Brunch and do a mean breakfast. They offer fresh pressed juices, matcha cappuccinos, acai bowls and quinoa porridge with fruit and yoghurt to kick start a healthy morning. Or, you have the option to cure that hazy head with something a bit more hearty like chilaquiles picosos, decadent croissants, tortas ahogadas and wash it all down with a michelda or a mimosa.

Open Sundays - 8:30 am - 12:00 am

Location - Calle Allende 316, Centro

Call - 951 156 0321

Casa Oaxaca Café

Located just out of Centro in Colonia Reforma, Casa Oaxaca Café serves up traditional Oaxacan breakfast options, with fresh coffee from the surrounding regions all in a beautiful shaded patio with lots of greenery. The service is fantastic and it's a perfect spot for those wanting to have a taste of the local flavours.

Open Sundays - 10 am - 6 pm

Location - Calle Jazmines 518 Col. Reforma

Call - 951 502 6017

Pan:Am

A valued breakfast staple in Oaxaca City. You will love having breakfast in their pretty courtyard complete with a huge frangipani tree in the centre. It is a very tranquil place to sip your coffee and munch on a fresh baked goodie from the bakery. They have Mexican classics like huevos rancheros, but also serve up waffles with berries, breakfast baguettes and fresh fruit salads. The coffee is delicious and service is always friendly.

Open Sundays - 9:00 am - 9:00 pm

Location - Abasolo 103, Centro

Call - 951 514 6808

Latitud 17 Café

Recently relocated from Calle Allende to Calzada de la Republica, Jalatlaco. Just a short walk from the centre of town, they now have more space with a cute little courtyard. I love this place because they make a Menu del Día (menu of the day) for vegetarians and vegans so we don't miss out on the great deals. For only $80 pesos you will get an entree, main plate, dessert and fruit water. How good is that?! They have other menu items if the set menu doesn't tickle your fancy. Their coffee is fabulous as well, you can't got wrong Sunday brunching here.

Open Sundays - 9am - 5pm

Location -  Calle Calzada de la Republica, Jalatlaco

Call - 951 516 7655
